Mystical Wiltshire

Crop Circles

For many summers, crop circles have appeared in the vicinity. Enthusiasts use the Barge Inn at Honeystreet as a meeting point.

Stonehenge

Dating back to c.2500BC, Stonehenge is one of the most popular prehistoric monuments in the world. To this day it still remains a mystery how and why the monument was built.

Although Stonehenge is not the largest stone circle in the world, it is the only one that has lintels around the top, making it unique.

Avebury

Less famous than Stonehenge, the vast stone circle at Avebury is no less impressive. One of Europe's largest prehistoric stone circles, Avebury has been voted as England's third most spiritual place.

With a massive ditch and external bank henge measuring 421m in diameter and 1.35 km in circumference, Avebury is approximately four times the size of Stonehenge.

Silbury Hill

The largest man-made mound in Europe, Silbury Hill is comparable in height and volume to the roughly contemporary Egyptian pyramids. Probably completed by about 2350 BC and part of the Avebury 'sacred landscape', it apparently contains no burial or shrine, and was clearly important in itself: but its purpose and significance remain enigmatic.
